Why a strip, and not a spray

A spray works while you are standing there. A strip goes on working for a fortnight after you have gone — which matters most in the half of the year when you are barely opening hives at all.

Cellulose paper carrying aromatic plant extracts and oils. It releases slowly, stays active for roughly seven to fifteen days, and then it is spent: take it out and put a fresh one in.

  • September to April. The manufacturer’s recommended window, and the half of the year a hive is mostly left alone — a strip does not need you to come back for its sake. This is the concentrated one of the two aromatic strips, and the season goes with the strength.

  • One strip per five frames, ten to a pack. Worth doing the sum before you order: a ten-frame box takes two at a time, so a pack is five changes for one box, or one change across five.

  • The same idea as Reset, working unattended. Reset is what you spray while the hive is open. This is the same family of aromatic oils in a form that carries on after the lid is back down.

Aromatic extracts and plant oils on cellulose paper. Nothing synthetic, and no residue in honey or comb.

It is not a veterinary medicine and does not stand in for one. If a colony needs treating, that is a different kind of product with an authorisation behind it — your local beekeeping association, or Jordbruksverket, is the place to start.

The gentler strip, without a season, for the rest of the year: Ticks – Natural Hive Aromatic Strips.

And the spray from the same family, for while you are in there: Reset – Natural Hive Hygiene.

Product Description

Aromatic plant extracts and essential oils absorbed into a natural cellulose strip. Zero synthetic chemicals. No honey residue.

Ingredients: Aromatic extracts and plant oils, cellulose paper.

How beekeepers use it

Hung between the frames — one strip for every five frames in the box. A strip stays active for roughly 7 to 15 days; when it is spent, take it out and put a fresh one in. The manufacturer recommends using them between September and April.

Beekeepers who prefer a natural approach use them to support hive hygiene and aromatic balance through the colder half of the year.

Common questions

Does it contain anything of animal origin?
The manufacturer declares this product to be entirely of plant and mineral origin, containing no ingredients of animal origin — no honey, milk, meat, egg, animal protein or animal fat.
Does it leave any residue in the honey?
No. The products leave no residue in honey or comb, so a treated colony still produces honey you can harvest and sell normally.
Can I use it during the honey flow?
Yes. Because nothing carries over into the honey, they can be used during the flow rather than only in the gaps between harvests.
How often can it be used?
They can be used continuously through the season and repeated season after season — there is no withdrawal period to plan around and no rotation requirement.
The product has a smell — is something wrong?
No, that is expected. The products are naturally made and contain fermented ingredients, which can give off a noticeable smell. Bees find it attractive rather than off-putting — it is a scent they seek out.
How long does it keep, and how should it be stored?
Each pack carries a recommended use-by date, generally 24 months from manufacture. Keep it in its original packaging between 5 and 20 °C, out of direct sunlight. The smell and any settling may change over time — that belongs to a naturally produced, fermented product.
Can I return an opened product?
No. For health and hygiene reasons, a product whose own vented plastic cap or inner packet has been opened cannot be returned (EU Consumer Rights Directive art. 16). The outer shipping box does not count — you may open the parcel and look at the goods. Products with their own seal intact can be returned within 14 days.
